December 24th

On this holy night, we pause to reflect on the wonder of the Saviour’s birth. The world, dark and weary, received the greatest gift—Jesus, the light of the world, born in a humble manger. He came not with fanfare or riches, but with love and grace, bringing hope and peace to all people.

As we stand on the threshold of Christmas, we are reminded that the joy of this season is not just in the celebrations, gifts, and traditions—it is rooted in the reality that God chose to come near to us. In Christ’s birth, the promise of salvation was fulfilled, and for that, our hearts overflow with joy. It is Merry Christmas because of the indescribable gift of love that entered the world that night.

This season is merry because the Saviour, Emmanuel—God with us—brings light to the darkness, peace to our hearts, and a reason for unending joy.

Short Prayer:

“Lord Jesus, as we stand on the eve of Your birth, our hearts are full of wonder and gratitude. You came into the world as a humble child, bringing hope, peace, and joy to all who would receive You. Tonight, we celebrate not just Your birth, but the incredible gift of Your love. May the joy of Christmas fill our hearts, and may we share that joy with others. Thank You for being our Saviour, and for making this a merry Christmas for all. Amen.”

A Heart of Worship: Preparing for Christ's Birth

As we approach Christmas Eve, let’s take time to focus on the heart of worship and the anticipation of Christ’s birth. What does it mean to prepare our hearts for Him?

Scripture:
"Glory to God in the highest heaven, and on earth peace to those on whom his favour rests."
— Luke 2:14

The angel's message was filled with great joy. As we await the birth of Jesus, let's remember that worship goes beyond songs and words—it’s about opening our hearts to the joy and love He brings. Take a few moments today to worship through song, prayer, or quiet reflection, focusing on the joy of the Saviour’s birth.

December 19th

Did you know the story behind the beloved Christmas carol, "Silent Night"?

On Christmas Eve in 1818, in the small village of Oberndorf, Austria, a young priest named Joseph Mohr faced a dilemma. The church organ had broken, and there was no way to accompany the planned Christmas service. Determined to bring music to the celebration, Mohr remembered a poem he had written two years earlier.

He brought the poem, "Stille Nacht, Heilige Nacht", to Franz Xaver Gruber, a local school teacher and organist. Gruber quickly composed a simple melody for guitar accompaniment. That night, the carol was performed for the first time at St. Nicholas Church, with Mohr playing the guitar and the two men singing in harmony.

The song's peaceful melody and message of hope resonated deeply, and it spread quickly beyond the village. By the mid-19th century, "Silent Night" had become a global favourite, translated into over 300 languages.

Its timeless message reminds us of the quiet wonder of Christ's birth and the profound peace He brings to the world.

Advent18

This verse from Romans 8:38-39 is a profound reminder that nothing—absolutely nothing—can separate us from God’s love. His love is constant, unchanging, and powerful, reaching us no matter where we are or what we’re facing.

In moments of doubt, fear, or struggle, cling to this truth: God’s love is stronger than any challenge, deeper than any sorrow, and more enduring than anything in creation. Rest in the assurance that you are held securely in His love through Christ, now and forever.

December 14th

Take a moment to pause, breathe deeply, and let go of the busyness around you. Close your eyes if you feel comfortable and reflect on this Scripture:

"Be still, and know that I am God." – Psalm 46:10

As you sit in silence, consider the wonder of God's presence in your life. Reflect on the peace He offers, even amidst life's challenges, and the hope that shines through the Christmas story.

Let this time of quiet rest renew your heart and prepare you to receive the joy and love of the season.

Emmanuel – God With Us

One of the most cherished names of Jesus is Emmanuel, which means “God with us.” This name is a profound reminder of the miracle we celebrate at Christmas: God Himself came to dwell among us in the person of Jesus Christ.

First mentioned in Isaiah 7:14 and fulfilled in Matthew 1:23, Emmanuel speaks of God’s closeness and His desire to be in relationship with us. It assures us that we are never alone, no matter our circumstances, because God chose to enter our world and share in our humanity.

As we journey through Advent, reflecting on Emmanuel can deepen our understanding of the hope and comfort Jesus brings. He is not a distant saviour but one who walks beside us, bringing light into the darkest places and peace to troubled hearts.

This Advent season, let the name Emmanuel remind you of God’s incredible love and His constant presence in your life.

"Behold, the virgin shall conceive and bear a son, and they shall call his name Emmanuel" (which means, God with us). – Matthew 1:23

These simple decorations are enjoyable for all ages and can carry a meaningful message or sentiment!

  • Craft sticks (or lolly sticks)
  • Glue
  • Paint or felt-tip pens
  • Glitter, sequins, or stickers for embellishment

  1. Form the Star: Glue five craft sticks into a star shape (adults can assist younger children with this step). Allow the glue to dry fully.

  3. Add Sparkle: Embellish your star with glitter, sequins, or stickers.
  4. Add a Hanger: Attach a piece of ribbon or string to the top of the star for hanging.
  5. Display: Hang your finished stars on the Christmas tree, in windows, or give them as thoughtful handmade gifts.

This activity is a wonderful way to celebrate the season while adding a personal touch that captures the hope and joy of Christmas!

December 10th

Today, take a moment to pause and reflect on the blessings in your life. Gratitude shifts our perspective and reminds us of God’s goodness, even in the small things.

Write down three things you’re grateful for today. They can be big or small—answers to prayer, a kind word, or even a moment of peace.

As you reflect, remember these words from 1 Thessalonians 5:18:
"Give thanks in all circumstances; for this is God’s will for you in Christ Jesus."

Let gratitude draw you closer to God’s heart and fill your day with joy! What are you thankful for?

Advent10

December 9th

Advent9

God’s love is not conditional or earned; it is given freely, even when we fall short. His love is a steady foundation, unchanging through life’s uncertainties. The ultimate expression of this love is found in Jesus—coming to earth, living among us, and giving His life so we might have eternal hope.

Take a moment to meditate on this truth: God loves you fully, undeserving as you are. His love is patient, forgiving, and steadfast. Let this knowledge fill your heart with peace and gratitude today.

Prayer:
Lord, thank You for Your unfailing love. Help me to rest in it, trust in it, and share it with others. Amen.

Advent8

‘My soul glorifies the Lord
and my spirit rejoices in God my Saviour,
for he has been mindful
of the humble state of his servant.
From now on all generations will call me blessed,
for the Mighty One has done great things for me –
    holy is his name.
His mercy extends to those who fear him,
    from generation to generation.
He has performed mighty deeds with his arm;
he has scattered those who are proud in their inmost thoughts.
He has brought down rulers from their thrones
but has lifted up the humble.
He has filled the hungry with good things
but has sent the rich away empty.
He has helped his servant Israel,
    remembering to be merciful
to Abraham and his descendants for ever,
just as he promised our ancestors.’

In Luke 1: 46-55, Mary’s words highlight two powerful attributes of God: His might and His mercy. Despite her humble status, Mary recognises that God’s greatness has reached into her life, transforming her future and the world’s. She praises His holiness and acknowledges His mercy as enduring and unchanging, spanning generations.

Reflecting on this, we see a God who is both powerful enough to work miracles and compassionate enough to care for the humble. Like Mary, may we trust in His greatness and respond with praise this Advent season.

December 7th

Advent7

This verse reminds us that the true purpose of the season is the joy of Christ’s birth—the good news of salvation that brings hope to all people. As we celebrate, may we hold onto the deep and abiding joy that comes from knowing Jesus, our Saviour and King!

This Advent, let us pause to dwell in the truth that our joy is rooted in the coming of our Saviour. Even in moments of challenge or weariness, His arrival brings hope and a joy that nothing in this world can take away. How can we carry this joy and share it with those around us? Let’s reflect and let His light shine through us.

December 6th

Advent6

You never know how much a kind word or gesture can mean to someone who might be feeling overwhelmed or alone during this season. Let’s be intentional in showing Christ’s love through these small acts of care. As Proverbs 16:24 reminds us:

"Gracious words are a honeycomb, sweet to the soul and healing to the bones."

Take a moment today to reach out—it could make all the difference!

December 4th

As we journey through Advent, we’re invited to pause and welcome God’s peace—a peace that quiets our hearts and steadies our minds even in uncertain times. This peace isn’t just a fleeting feeling; it’s a profound gift from Christ, who comes to bring calm to the stormiest parts of our lives.

Verse to Reflect On:
"Peace I leave with you; my peace I give you. I do not give to you as the world gives. Do not let your hearts be troubled and do not be afraid." — John 14:27

  4. Decorate the Jars: Have the kids add ribbons, stickers, or even hand-drawn designs to make each jar festive.

Advent3

December 2nd

As we move through this Advent season, let’s take a moment to pause, breathe, and recenter our hearts on Christ. In the midst of holiday preparations and busyness, let us not lose sight of the One we’re waiting for—the One who brings light and life to our souls. Together, let’s pray:

'Lord Jesus, we come before You with open hearts, seeking to draw near to You. Help us quiet the noise around us and within us, that we may feel Your presence more deeply. Fill us with Your peace, renew our hope, and guide us to walk in Your love. May You be our centre, our joy, and our strength. In Your holy name, Amen.'

Let this be our prayer, a steady reminder to rest in the presence of Christ, who is the heart of this season.

Advent2

December 1st

Advent1

God is our source of hope, and during Advent—a season of waiting and preparation for Christ’s coming—we can trust in His promises. When we lean on Him, we’re not just given a flicker of hope, but rather we’re filled with a hope that overflows, renewing our joy and peace through His Spirit.

Planning your Visit

A Warm Hello

mitchell-leach-OoaoPYz-E3M-unsThe following information is specifically for those planning a visit, so that you know, beforehand, what to expect on Sundays. Both services are also Zoomed - if that's a more helpful way for you to engage, please contact us for the details.

Where and When

We meet at the Church Building (details here) for our Sunday Services starting at 10:45am and 6:00pm. For your first visit, we recommend arriving 10-15 minutes early to ensure you get a parking space and find somewhere to sit before the service begins. When you arrive, you should be greeted by someone on our Welcome Team who will offer you hymn books and a Bible.

Accessibility: There is wheelchair access, and a sound loop installed. Toilets, including a disabled toilet, are across in the church hall.

Our Morning Service

The service begins at 10:45am with a warm welcome from the person leading the service. We will then sing and pray and hear the Bible being read and then listen to a message preached from the Bible. After the sermon we usually share in what is known as the Lord's Supper or Communion - a sharing in bread and wine to remember the death of Jesus in our place (we use gluten-free bread and non-alcoholic wine). Once a month we close the service after the sermon with refreshments and an opportunity to stay and chat informally.

Our Evening Service

The service begins at 6pm is similar in format to the morning service. We share in the Lord's Supper on one evening each month.

What about my kids?

During term-time we run a Creche and a Sunday School for children up to Year 6 during the morning sermon time (these meet over in the Church Hall). For more information about what happens in the children's work please visit the Children's Ministry page.

Children stay with their parent or grown-up at the start of the service for the welcome, songs and notices. We really value worshipping God all together as a family. Children leave for Creche and Sunday School just before the sermon, generally during the third hymn. If you’re a visitor and you’d like to accompany your child to Sunday School, you’d be very welcome to do so. Please pick your children up as soon as the service finishes.

Getting Connected

While Sundays provide a wonderful opportunity to meet new people, it's often in smaller gatherings where deeper connections are formed. We host prayer meetings and small groups where we come together in homes to study the Bible and pray. Joining these groups offers a chance to forge new friendships, share experiences, and provide mutual support. Please feel free to reach out via the contact form below for more information.
